FAQ

The Ceramics

All items have been individually made by hand to produce special, one-of-a-kind pieces. Pieces are either stoneware or porcelain clay bodies that have been wheelthrown and/or hand built, and in a variety of firing methods.

Atmospheric firings (raku, wood, soda, smoke, crystalline) will produce unique results each time, so these pieces are considered specialty/limited edition — I may be able to create the same shapes and similar colours, but I won’t ever be able to get the same results twice!

There will always be slight variations and differences due to the handmade nature of pottery and these will not be considered flaws or defects, but rather part of the beauty in being handmade and marks of the maker.

Care and attention has been given to ensure photographs of the products are as accurate as possible, but pieces may have slight variations due to their handmade nature and differences in colour depending on the viewing device(s).

Samples & Seconds

Samples are one-off pieces that I’ve tested a new glaze or technique on and which there is nothing wrong with the piece, it’s just not likely something that I’ll try again or be carrying in future.

Seconds are imperfect ceramic pieces usually due to minor aesthetic reasons (that some people may love!) or that I consider them a little heavier/heftier than I’d like. They are otherwise perfectly functional and usable.

Ceramics Care

Most vessel pieces are for decorative purposes and not watertight; please check the product descriptions to ensure your pieces can hold water before trying to do so and keep in mind that even if your piece can hold water, it might not be recommended (the slim necks make it hard to fill/drain/clean) so these are usually recommended as decorative or dry stem only.

Pieces may be dusted or cleaned with a soft damp cloth as necessary. Unglazed clay surfaces are still porous and can be slightly rough, so a damp sponge is recommended, if needed. Handwashing is always recommended if absolutely necessary.

Bottoms of pieces have been sanded, but felt/cork pads are always recommended to protect surfaces.

Due to the nature of Raku, these pieces may develop a patina and/or oxidize over time.

Products are packed carefully, wrapped in kraft paper and packed with either bubble wrap or biodegradable packing peanuts and cardboard boxes in the hopes that they are as safe and secure as possible, but accidents can happen due to the fragile nature of ceramics, so please get in touch if an item does arrive broken or damaged.

Please recycle! Efforts have been made to recycle and reuse packing materials as possible in order to generate as little waste as possible. The packing peanuts are made of cornstarch and dissolvable in the sink or compost bin.
